Worm milling cutters are tools used for cutting cylindrical gearwheels and spline shafts. Worm milling cutters according to GOST 9324-80 and 6637-80 are usually made in the form of a screw, wherein screw grooves, which form cutting teeth, have been milled perpendicularly to the cutting direction. Whereby back parts of the teeth are spiral-sharpened, which facilitates retaining cutter’s profile. The cutting teeth are of a trapezoidal shape; due to this the cutting tool has rectilinear face cutting edges. All rules for manufacture as well as the operating specifications for worm milling cutters are set forth in GOST ГОСТ 9324-80, 6637-80 and other reference documents.
